In the early 1970s two men decided to create a business that sent data and reports to traffic engineers which derived from roadway counters. This business was a partnership called Traf-O-Data. Despite all the hard work put into this business , years later in 1980 the company suffered $3,000+ in net losses. Needless to say , this business was an utter failure. One of the partners , decided to get back up and start a new business. This individual then set out to create one of the greatest technology and software company in the world . This man’s name was Bill Gates, one of the richest people on the face of our planet .
What can we learn from this story ?
The most important takeaway in this story is that Resilience is what kept Bill Gates on the road to success. Sure he was smart , talented and qualified. However I’m sure there are plenty others out there far talented , and smarter than Bill Gates. What stood out with him was his strong sense of resilience . He never gave up . His first business failed , so he took the mistakes he made , learned from them and got up and tried to build another business. Whenever you find yourself in the face of failure , keep pushing regardless of how distraught you might be. Because with failure you have experience and knowledge, with failure you know how to improve. So don’t look at failure as a step back in your journey , look at it as a step forward
How Can We Become More Resilient
The greatest bodybuilder of all time Arnold Schwarzenegger once said “The mind is the limit. As long as the mind can envision the fact that you can do something, you can do it, as long as you really believe 100 percent” The only way to become more resilient is through sheer willpower. You can’t fake this , you have to trick your mind into thinking you can stick to whatever you’re doing . If you’re tired of working out with no results , just keep pushing , eventually you’ll hit the tipping point where you see results. However if you quit , and stop , you may never see the light of day and the benefits of success. So tell yourself you can do it regardless of what you may think. Another brilliant way to remain resilient is to be driven by the grind and the work rather than being driven by obtaining materialistic objects and or approval of others . If you’re starting a business , instead of focusing on the cars , the money , and the luxuries , focus on the grind. Focus on how much you love pitching ideas , how much you love pushing your product out in the world , how much you love failing , how you love how hard it all is. Whatever you do , don’t do it for the results , do it because you simply fucking love it. This way the journey isn’t as daunting and if you mess up and fail you can’t wait to get up the next day and try it all over again because you’re obsessed with the process . Don’t lift weights for the feeling of approval you will get from others. Lift it because you love exhausting yourself in the gym , you love bringing yourself to failure in each set , each rep. Do it because without it you would be nothing .
The single most important factor to success isn’t how talented you are, but how long you can put up consistent work for until you reach the point you want , and even then TO KEEP IMPROVING. Life is a game and as long as we make the right moves we will become successful. Thank you for reading and I hope you all keep striving for what each and every one of you want , good luck !
